Teach your puppy Down

Once your puppy/dog has the sit command down you can then move onto the down command. This command is great for medical and hygiene tasks such as nail clipping, getting them to relax during dinner or when company is over, or building up to the roll over command.

Method: First get your dog to sit, then move the treat down to the floor being sure the dog can smell and maybe even lick the treat. Be sure to keep a grip on the treat and don’t allow them to eat it or steal it from you. Once their nose is to the ground they will often lick the treat and slowly move back until they are laying down even with it. Wait until they are fully down and then praise and reward them. After a few successes in a row you can start adding the voice command.
